Taize at The Crossing

Every Thursday, The Crossing gathers in the sanctuary for worship at 7pm. Except for August. August we take time to break out of our routine, to be more intimate in our homes and be more exploratory with what makes worship.

This August though, we are still in the sanctuary, not on Thursdays but on Mondays, and not for "typical" Crossing worship, but for Taizé.

Taize as a place is a monastery in France that welcomes people all of the world to gather for communal living and prayer. Taizé as worship is the monastery's contemplative prayer service with silence, chanting, scripture, and prayer, and lots more chanting. Members of The Crossing have been organizing and practicing and hosting this service for almost two months now. For me, this service allows space to sit and abide with God, a service that I'm not "on" for like I am for Crossing worship, a service where my lungs and vocal chords and belly get to resonate together and call it prayer from the inside out. This service has been home for me, this summer. And I'd like to welcome you to that space, that sense of home.

You're invited to join us on Mondays at 7;30 at the cathedral for prayer, chanting, silence, and more chanting. Hope to see you there!

be well,

tamra

Resources for Discipleship...

This program year, the Cathedral is offering the resources of MiniRevolutions from Illustrated Ministry to support everyone, and especially families with children at home, in their formation. Mini Revolutions is an intergenerational, monthly, digital curriculum based on the Revised Common Lectionary. Small groups and families can practice the rhythms and experience the seasons of the church year through the revolutions of the liturgical calendar. Scripture-based wondering questions, weekly micro-practices, and beautiful coloring pages illustrating scripture are available for use at home, at church, or on Zoom.

We invite you to join us in trying this week's microPractice (above).

AT THE FAIR

Last weekend was great

No rides at all this year

But my grandkids did not care

Music Notes...

During the offertory, Leo will be singing "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior", a hymn written by Fanny Crosby (1820 – 1915).

Pass me not, O gentle Savior,

Hear my humble cry;

While on others Thou art calling,

Do not pass me by.

Refrain: Savior, Savior, Hear my humble cry;

While on others Thou art calling,

Do not pass me by.

Let me at Thy throne of mercy

Find a sweet relief,

Kneeling there in deep contrition;

Help my unbelief.

Trusting only in Thy merit,

Would I seek Thy face;

Heal my wounded, broken spirit,

Save me by Thy grace.

Thou the Spring of all my comfort,

More than life to me,

Whom have I on earth beside Thee?

Whom in Heav’n but Thee?

The hymn reflects a plea for God's mercy and salvation, expressing a desire for a personal encounter with the Savior. The Canaanite woman mentioned in the Gospel repeatedly asks Jesus for help, and Fanny Crosby asks for help as well in writing “Pass me not, o gentle Savior”, one of her 8,000 hymns.
