At Faith United we care for one another! We care about those worshiping in person and online. We care about those who are out and about and we care about those who are homebound, in nursing homes, or in Senior Living facilities.

Do you know someone who is homebound or living in a nursing home and connected with our congregation? We are currently in the process of launching a new version of visitation ministry, and want to make sure that our lists are up to date! For someone to be added to the list, please follow this process:

Step 1: If the individual is not you, check with the individual about being added to our Homebound or Nursing Home / Senior Living lists. Let them know that this provides increased opportunity for one of our (soon to be) visitation team members to visit them, bring them communion, etc. In addition, this will make sure that they are on the pastor lists for visitation.

Step 2: That individual, or a member of that individual's family, will then call the church office and request to be added to the list. The church office will then confirm contact information for that person including an address and phone number.

In addition, if you would like to be a member of our visitation team, please reach out to Pastor Jake! This is a great way to serve God and the Church!

Visioning Team 2022

As the tenure of the Visioning Team neared completion, the next step in their process involved presenting to the Church Board the results of their efforts with two recommendations.

The first recommendation which received Church Board approval is to conduct a feasibility study contracted with Horizons Stewardship consultant Craig Miller.

The second recommendation which also received Church Board approval is to form a task group to work on all logistical aspects necessary to prepare for moving the modern worship service to the Family Life Center.

We look forward to continuing the journey with you in further discernment of what God is calling Faith United to do and be in fulfilling the mission of the church.

Climate Change wreaks devastating havoc in California, but too many still deny the growing power of climate change events

Awareness is the first step toward addressing and combating global warming.

For instance, California has gone from extreme drought to extreme flooding in just a few days. A powerful storm — the latest to thrash the West Coast in recent weeks — continues to batter the state. Nevertheless, only 51% in the US “Think recent extreme weather is the result of climate change”. And 28% oppose the U.S. taking steps toward becoming carbon neutral. It’s not an accident that so many doubt the reality of global warming; the fossil fuel industry regularly spends millions of dollars of dark money advertising to the public; shaping corporate decisions; lobbying members of Congress; and otherwise funding the infrastructure that makes climate denial politically feasible and even profitable.

The reality that so many of us deny basic science leaves the overwhelming majority of the American people who accept reality with a grueling task ahead. Without new investments in a clean energy economy and an end to the practice of subsidizing fossil fuel extraction, the agents of doubt peddling climate change misinformation will have succeeded in darkening not just the future but also the shape of the present as well. So, what can you do?

The Takeaway Speak up! Tell your friends about the reality of Climate Change. And let your representatives in congress know that you expect them to support climate change legislation.

Youth Newsletter January 2023

As we head into the new year, I’m looking back on our past accomplishments as well as looking ahead to possibilities. 2022 was my fist full calendar year at Faith United. It was challenging, to say the least. I was tasked with rebuilding a youth ministry that had been inactive for most of 2021. Although we are far from where we once were, I am happy to see the progress we have made. We have established a Wednesday night youth group, which is included within the Wednesday night worship. We offer a Sunday school program at 9:45am. We had an excellent confirmation class for 2022. We also began a monthly activity where we do something fun outside of the church. Last month, for example, we went ice skating in downtown Canton (pictures are available on our Facebook page).

I was able to get involved in the North Canton community as well. I signed up for a mentorship program for the middle school called the Legacy project. Each Thursday, my co-mentor and I meet with about 8 students, talk with them, listen to them, and teach principles of character development. It has been a very rewarding experience and has connected me with other faith leaders who also volunteer.

So where are we headed this year? I plan on getting involved in another community group for North Canton high school students called Young Life. It is a Christian based organization that meets twice weekly. I also want to begin monthly mission opportunities locally for the youth, such as going to Faith Kitchen. We have the youth worship service coming on February 19th as well as the mission trip at the end of June to Pittsburgh. Finally, I plan on getting involved next school year with a North Canton high school support group called the GSA (gay-straight alliance). It’s a group that brings together people from the LGBTQ+ community along with those who want to support them.

If you are a youth (6th grade-12th) or a parent and you want to have some input into the youth ministry, please take this brief survey to help me with further direction. I look forward to what God has in store for us.
