COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM | |
Happy 10th Birthday!
The National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program celebrated its tenth anniversary on
July 1. Also known as iCanConnect, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established this program in July 2012 to give low-income deafblind individuals access to communication services in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
The FCC allocates $10 million from the Interstate Telecommunications Relay Service Fund yearly. This money supports the program nationwide.
| |
|
In Colorado, the grant award goes to the Commission for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind. The commission has administered this grant in Colorado since the program began.
10th Birthday Milestones:
- Serving close to 300 deafblind Coloradans.
- Providing a variety of telecommunications devices (such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and software).
- Providing local, state, and national training.
The commission looks forward to continuing this permanent program well into the future.
