In addition to being a Director, Al is also Vice President of the Honolulu Council Bridge program, which bridges the community and our service members. Al helps to plan the member visits and briefs.

The Pacific Submarine Force (SUBPAC) held a golf tournament in February to raise funds for the Submarine Ball in April. The Honolulu Council supported the event registration and provided goodie bags to the teams that came to enjoy a day on the links!  Even John Daly showed up!

COMSUBPAC mans, trains, equips, and certifies undersea forces to deploy and provide agile, responsive, and lethal force. They provide anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface ship warfare, precision land strike, mine warfare, intelligence, surveillance and early warning and special warfare capabilities to the U.S. Pacific and strategic deterrence capabilities to the U.S. Strategic Command. They are good …. really, really good…and silent.

Member Tour

Council members were treated to an after-hours boat tour of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial on February 21st.

Admiral Barnett, Commander of Navy Region Hawaii, welcomed everyone to the boat house and Pearl Harbor! White Boat tours are important and provide an opportunity for Navy Leaguers and members of the community to see firsthand how Navy Region Hawaii protects and cares for Hawaii's unique and very special natural environment, at the same time coordinating all shore-based naval personnel and shore activities in Hawaii.

We paid respects to our fallen heroes on the USS Arizona (BB-39) and heard about the US being brought into the war, starting with the USS Arizona and ending with the signing of the Instrument of Surrender on the USS Missouri (BB-63).

Navy Region historian Jim Neuman narrated the tour and shared his extensive knowledge of the Dec 7 attack on Pearl Harbor, the "bookends of World War II in the Pacific," and the fate of the soldiers, sailors and ships that were in port at the time.

Executive Director's Message

February was a great Navy League month! In keeping with our mission to Advocate – Educate – Support, we executed or participated in many important events. Swearing in a new board member, supporting the Submarine Force of the Pacific, seeing and hearing about the history, importance, and collective support of Pearl Harbor, visits to the world’s most impactful remains identification lab, ship visits with Sea Cadets, and supporting our military families. We wear roller skates most days!

Advocacy is especially important to us. We strive to ensure that career paths are communicated with our keiki, parents and job seekers, and partner to promote building the manpower pools to support our shipyard and maritime communities for the foreseeable future. Any career you can think of you will find at a shipyard or within a service – so spread that word!

Sincerely,

Jane Ferreira

Executive Director
