BMIT workshops with NE Department of Education

The Council toured with the Nebraska Department of Education as part of their annual fall BMIT (business, marketing, and industrial technology) workshops. At each session we gave an overall synopsis of what the Council does highlighting the Econ and Finance Challenges, the Stock Market Game, and the in school savings programs. In addition, we gave a demonstration of our interactive professional development pedagogy with an inflation activity. It is exciting to report that as a result of these workshops we doubled participation in the Finance Challenge, are seeing a large increase in the Econ Challenge, and have started the process to open two new in school savings programs in greater Nebraska.

NCEE Thanks the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation

The UNO Center for Economic Education has worked with the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation since 2007 to provide online excellent economics and personal finance lessons for K-12 teachers and adults. The foundation supports, and we jointly created, a website for teachers, EconEdReviews.org. The website indexes over 1700 high-quality economics and personal finance lessons that are readily searchable by level of the material, the content and concepts, and the organization that provided the lesson. Teachers rate and write reviews of the lessons, which helps other teachers find the very best materials for their classroom, and gives them tested information on how to use the lesson effectively.

Rockonomix will motivate student learning by using popular media to reinforce basic economic principals. Write new lyrics to a popular hit song and submit to the Nebraska Council on Economic Education (post on You Tube) by February 28, 2017.

The overall winning teams will receive(per team):

1st place - $250 and the winning song will be submitted to the National Rock-o-nomix Contest to compete against the top songs from high schools across the country!
2nd place - $150
3rd place - $100

The national program was created and is run by the UWG Center for Economic Education.

Econ Day at UNL

This signature event hosted by the UNL Center for Economic Education, Econ Day for High School Students, was held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. This event brought over 90 students from 6 high schools to campus.

The students had the opportunity to hear from UNL Economics faculty (Fischer, Davidson, Miller and Mann) on various economic topics in a fun, interactive setting. Participating students also learned more about what the Business College and UNL has to offer.

Economics of Health Care hosted by UNK

On Thursday September 22 the Center for Economic Education at Kearney hosted 43 students for a day long look at the Economics of Health Care. The highlight of the day was a keynote presentation by Jeanette M. Wojtalewicz, CFO for CHI Health.
