Danae Dinkel is an assistant professor in the School of Health and Kinesiology at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Her work focuses on the development and evaluation of evidence-based physical activity programs, as well as the identification of factors that impact children’s ability to live a physically active lifestyle.
What is the future direction for your early childhood research?
"My goal is to identify the earliest point of intervention needed to ensure all children are able to develop the skills necessary to live a physically active life."
Are there any new research projects or activities you are starting on now?
"Later this spring, we will begin a study to explore how parents promote active play and motor development with their infants and whether weight influences these behaviors. We will bring infant-parent dyads into the lab for a qualitative interview and video observation of their play behaviors."
How can effective collaboration enhance the research enterprise?
"Early childhood development is a complex issue. With the different expertise across the NU system, collaborating and combining this expertise can only strengthen research studies and identify solutions for improving children’s health."
