The NAECR team extends best wishes to you as we begin the 2023-24 academic year. We hope your summer break was both restful and productive.
We are excited to announce several events for the early childhood research community:

On Sept. 28, we welcome you to attend the Helen Kelley Symposium on Excellence in Education, sponsored by CEHS with support from NAECR and CYFS. The event will be held on the UNL campus and feature Dr. Linda Reddy and Dr. Hope Gerde, who will present on coaching in the birth to PreK and early elementary settings. Registration is required.

On Nov. 15, we will hold our fall NAECR Knowledge event, focused on the online tool Canva. You will learn how to use Canva to create effective and high-quality materials to support your work, such as developing recruitment flyers or project briefs.

Finally, please save the date for the 2024 Summit on Research in Early Childhood on April 23, 2024, at Nebraska Innovation Campus. More information to come soon!
One of our primary aims for NAECR is to create connections and collaborations among early childhood researchers from across the University of Nebraska system. To ensure this, we continue to offer various supports and resources.
If there are new colleagues who could benefit from a connection to NAECR, please share their information and we will invite them to participate.

This event will focus on professional learning supports for early childhood educators, including the birth to pre-K and early elementary settings.
Speakers include Dr. Linda Reddy, professor and associate dean of research at Rutgers University, and Dr. Hope Gerde, director of the Institute for Early Childhood at Texas A&M University.
There will be a facilitated question and response panel with the speakers following their presentations.
This event is sponsored by CEHS with support from NAECR and CYFS. It is funded by a generous gift from Richard and Helen Kelley through the University of Nebraska Foundation.
Registration is required.

Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood
The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood is an incubator of promising research and development projects that appear likely to improve the welfare of young children, from infancy through 7 years, in the United States.
Funding is provided in the areas of early childhood welfare, early childhood education and play and parenting education.
The Foundation’s goal is to provide seed money to implement those imaginative proposals that exhibit the greatest chance of improving the lives of young children, on a national scale.

On Friday, Sept. 22, Scott Frohn, senior manager of assessment and psychometrics at Workera.ai, leads a presentation titled, "Putting ChatGPT to the Test: Practical Applications of Large Language Models for Assessment Development."
The presentation is co-hosted by the MAP Academy and the Buros Center for Testing.
The advancement and accessibility of ChatGPT and other Large Language Models (LLMs) over the past year has dramatically impacted how many of us think about work, productivity, learning and many other aspects of our lives.
This presentation will provide a high-level overview of how LLMs such as ChatGPT work, as well as practical advice for leveraging LLMs in assessment development and best practices in prompt engineering.
The presentation is free and open to the public. Continuing education credit for this program is available upon request from the Buros Center for Testing.
