Estero Fire Rescue will Change the Batteries in your Smoke Alarms for Free
Estero Fire Rescue (EFR) is pleased to help district residents change the batteries in your smoke alarms at no charge. However, residents must purchase the batteries and they must be the ten-year (or long-life) batteries. Smoke alarm assistance is available by appointment and only on assistance takes place on Mondays and Fridays only. Once the batteries are purchased, the resident should call 239-390-8000 to make an appointment.

Residents can also get assistance with changing their smoke alarms. Residents are encouraged to change out their alarms if they are older than seven years . EFR will assist with replacement provided:
  1. Replacement alarms are compatible with the current alarms and require NO wiring
  2. The replacement alarms are required to have sealed, ten-year (or long-life) batteries.
  3. Once the replacement alarms are purchased, the resident can then call the office to make an appointment.

Smoke alarm lifespans can vary, but too often a lack of awareness means some U.S. homes may have smoke alarms that have passed their expiration dates, putting people at increased risk in the event of a home fire.
