Description:

During this session, participants will be introduced to the entire play therapy process from start to finish, including how to make skilled responses, identifying therapeutic themes and issues, tracking progress, setting limits, responding to questions and making decisions about termination of sessions. Additionally, participants will learn how to select toys for the playroom and work with parents effectively. This workshop will provide a framework for conducting play therapy in order to begin conducting this work immediately. Includes didactic information and videotape presentation, as well as roleplay and hands-on practice. If you are serious about play therapy, this workshop is a MUST! It is CBPS’ thought that every therapist working with children in a mental health capacity should have this training as a foundation regardless of the play

therapy modality being used.

• Define play therapy and the major tenets 
• Identify contributions of the Giants in play therapy
• Describe how play therapy brings about healing to dysregulated children
• Explain the role of the parent in the play therapy process

Sonia Hinds, APRN, CNS, RPT-S™ is the Founder and CEO of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. Founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a non-profit practice providing children's mental health services. Ms. Hinds is trained in Child-Centered and Gestalt play therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired). Authored chapter, Play Therapy with African-American Village in text, Cultural Issues in Play Therapy, edited by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S and Athena Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S. Ms. Hinds received the MD/DC APT 2019 Outstanding Service Award.

Cancellation Policy:

Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.

CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund. 

Cancelling your Zoom meeting registration does not constitute cancellation of your CBPS session registration. Please refer to our cancellation policy in the training announcement, which supersedes all other mentions of options to cancel your registration.
