PARENTS AND FAMILIES WELCOME TO ATTEND FLEXIBLE FRIDAY 9.9.22

At Colorado Christian Academy, we love and value our country and we ensure we learn about national history and continuously build student patriotism. We have several guest speakers (including one of our own families!) who were first responders, on site at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, during the September 11th attacks. Historical content and presentations will be age appropriate, please let Mariella Brown know via email at m.brown@coloradochristianacademy.com if you have any questions or concerns regarding the content for your student(s). Parents are welcome to join us for the morning as we honor these incredible first responders, learn about the importance of the day, and honor the people that bravely protect our country. In the afternoon, students will rotate through a variety of learning stations focused on American history. If you are not normally enrolled in the Flexible Friday Program, and wish to attend, please email Brandon Brien at b.brien@coloradochristianacademy.com no later than Tuesday, September 6th to have your student(s) join this Flexible Friday.

Please RSVP via the evite link for our 2nd Annual Dad and Me Campout at Chatfield Reservoir! Lunch will be served by PIP at the Heronry Picnic Area followed by an afternoon of Dad's choice of: hiking, biking or fishing!  Each family will be responsible to bring their own gear for the activities, as well as camping supplies, and BYO dinner and breakfast. When you RSVP, please let us know how many will be coming for lunch, if they will stay for dinner, and attendance to the campfire and/or overnight camping.

Student Discipline and Behavioral Correction

CCA believes that the formation and maintenance of a positive school culture is essential in supporting our students in academic and moral excellence. We will fall short in our attempts to emulate Jesus but we also realize God’s grace and compassion is given to us despite our transgressions. We cannot overemphasize the importance of a redemptive perspective in student discipline and behavioral correction through holistic support.  When students make mistakes, we see this as an opportunity to reveal a clear understanding of oneself and receive God’s love through guidance and correction.  Grades Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd Grade utilize a Color Chart (please see the section "Color Chart: Grades PreK-3rd" below) and Grades 4th through 8th utilize Work Habits (please see the section "Work Habits: Grades 4th-8th" below). In partnership with parents, teachers will connect with families often. Families will receive calls or in-person updates about their student’s great accomplishments and will also be communicated with when a student is struggling to meet expectations. When students are struggling, the relevant teacher will make contact with the parents, unless the situation requires otherwise.

Color Chart: Grades PreK-3rd

For grades PreK through 3rd, each classroom has a color chart with purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Please note the descriptions of each color and the corresponding student behavior.

·   Purple: met or surpassed individual goals and expectations

·   Blue: meeting milestones of individual goals and expectations

·   Green: ready to learn and meeting expectations

·   Yellow: needs to refocus, reset, and get ready to learn again

·   Orange: needs to relocate within/near classroom and complete a redemptive written reflection (teacher discusses with parent and student together by the end of the day)

·   Red: Administrator intervenes and escorts the student from the classroom (parents are notified by administration immediately)

Work Habits: Grades 4th-8th

Work Habits are reflective of a student's character, effort, and ethic. Every student is encouraged to develop helpful Work Habits related to three overarching categories: respect, preparedness, and work ethic. These three categories are broken into three subcategories that are attributes of the fruits of the Spirit, found in Galatians. Points are given when students meet or exceed work habit expectations, and students are required to set individual goals.

Students receive infractions when a student does not follow the character, preparedness, or work habit agreement. There are two classifications of infractions: classroom infractions and school infractions.  Classroom infractions are meant to reflect God’s mercy and restart fresh daily (Lamentations 3:22-23). If a student receives three classroom infractions in a given day, their family will be called to discuss the behavioral infraction. School infractions are officially logged into Blackbaud and will be approved by the administration for review and additional follow up. School infractions may be flagged for development of a behavioral correction plan to learn from, understand, and correct their behavior.
