I love my books! They are my friends and I have acquired a lot of them over the years. My shelves are full of music, novels, biographies, spiritual, and self-help books. I enjoy having a lavish library to reference, to reread, and to comfort me when I feel the need.
When I read, I am aware that I am reading the thoughts and beliefs of the author. I may not always agree with everything I read and when I don't agree I often try to think about why and how my thoughts differ so that I can get clear about the subject. Many times I just take what resonates as truth to me and let the rest go.
Since each one of us has a source of life within that we may call God, or Higher Power, or Infinite Spirit, and many other names, each author is using their innate talents to express what is in their minds. If that individual author is really in tune with universal mind, what is expressed will be filled with truth, or at least truth as it is filtered through their consciousness.
Books help us to expand beyond the limits of our current mindset. They provide an ever expanding system of information that contributes to our civilizations' evolution. Spiritual books provide insight into the nature of the universe and how to attain a connection with our source of life.
Reading about spiritual topics is not the same as a direct experience of the divine, however. This is something no book can provide. This kind of knowledge is obtained by sitting in the silence on a regular basis. When we demonstrate a desire to connect with spirit, we will get a response. Everything we need to know will be revealed to us when we want to experience inner peace, joy, and love more than anything else.
We can seek knowledge from teachers and from books, but true knowledge is found in direct experience with Spirit within our own heart.
