International Day of the Girl: Global and GSGC Girls Club Style

On October 11, the world celebrated what GSGC celebrates every day:
the potential and value of girls.
Michelle Obama launched a new global initiative focused on providing girls access to education; Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai raised awareness for building schools where girls are unlikely to go beyond an elementary education; and the United Nations announced new investments that provide opportunities for girls to attain skills for employability. And on the ground in Southern Africa, GSGC-sponsored girls and boys clubs brought together their peers and communities to celebrate girls, education and gender equality.

Woot woot!! Believe Club Girls Win Awards
Join us in celebrating the girls of Believe club. Members recently won school awards for Most Hard Working, Most Generous, Best Prefect , and Best in Mathematics . And a special award was presented to   Believe club for its overall contributions to the school . Woot woot!

Believe Club Career Day Inspires Girls and Administrators

"No other organization has offered the emotional or material support that Global Sojourns Giving Circle provides." St. Mary's School official

"The career day session was unprecedented," said one school official, asking for similar presentations to the entire student bodies of St. Mary's and St. Peter's next year. Another said, "I've worked at many schools but had never seen anything like what was organized by Believe Club Auntie, Gloria Mubita." And school counselors encouraged Auntie Gloria to increase club meetings from once a week to twice a week.

"It's really amazing to see the influence we are having on the girls. Parents tell us that suddenly their child is able to speak English. Suddenly the kids are aspiring to do better. Before, if you asked them what they wanted to study, they didn't know; but now, they are saying they want to be doctors or lawyers because we expose them to different occupations. We had 60 kids coming to beg, not even ask, but beg to be in the club."

There are five days left until the end of our fiscal year...and...wait for it... together we have raised over 80% of our $60,000 International Day of the Girl fundraising goal ! Woohoo!

This will enable us to continue supporting the 18 current GSGC-sponsored clubs (that's over 300 youths) and provide for a little growth in clubs and programs. Having proven the success of our approach, we simply want to empower more girls and strengthen more communities.
