The Parkchester branch of the NAACP is sponsoring an open conversation with the 43rd precinct on Sunday, April 30th at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1891 McGraw Avenue.  Inspector Fausto Pichardo, Commanding Officer along with members of the Community Affairs Unit will be there to discuss:
  • Community Policing
  • Building ties with the NYPD
  • Working closely with the 43rd precinct
  • Making Parkchester safer and more...
Come on out and be a part of the conversation.

Neerob Returns

Last spring, on the street known as Bangla Bazaar in the Parkchester section of the Bronx, the Bangladeshi restaurant Neerob vanished. Fortunately, they can now be found a few blocks away at 2160 Westchester Avenue in a new space that was once home to a 99-cent store. There, a year and a half ago, the owner opened Packsun Halal Chicken. Nestled within Packsun is the same delicious fare he served at the old Neerob alongside American hamburgers and fried chicken.

Around the Bronx
The Bronx is Booming: The Melrose Success Story
The Bronx Documentary Center occupies a 19th-century landmarked Melrose mansion.

The Melrose neighborhood has had a dramatic turnaround in the last two decades. More than 5,000 new units of housing have been constructed since 2000, much of it affordable to low-income residents, and streets once vacant for blocks on end are now tree-lined strips of townhouses. Melrose is now home to 25,000 residents, up from just 3,000 in 1980, among them Puerto Ricans, African Americans, Mexicans, West Africans, and Dominicans.
