Volunteer Stays Committed to One Family Over Three Years
When Dallas CASA volunteer Shamika Williams accepted her first case in 2020, she was ready to say yes to whatever came her way. She didn't think her next two cases would involve siblings of the first child she was assigned to. But after three years working closely with one family, Shamika is pleased all three children are safe, thriving and know their siblings.
The Dallas CASA Young Professionals will host the annual CASAblanca casino party on Friday, February 2. Named by CultureMap as one of the top spring events every philanthropic young professional in Dallas should attend, guests will enjoy a fabulous evening of casino games, dancing, cocktails, appetizers, prizes and lots of fun. The casino party will include blackjack, craps and poker tables, and a roulette wheel, with winning prize drawings. The Special Edition Band will perform all night while guests hit the dance floor. All proceeds will benefit the children served by Dallas CASA.

David Soukup, the Seattle judge who came up with the idea to give children court-appointed advocates, has died.
Soukop was serving as a county judge in the 1970s when he became concerned about the lack of information available to the court when making decisions about children who had experienced abuse or neglect. He initially asked friends and staff for volunteers who could come to court. By 1977, the nationwide organization CASA was founded.
Prom Apparel Drive Benefits Teens Served by Dallas CASA
Your gently used formal wear could make a local teen’s prom night dream come true. Comerica Bank is collecting clean and gently used prom dresses and formal wear for local teens who dream of a special prom night and might otherwise not be able to attend their high school prom. Since the program began in 2015, Comerica has collected and donated more than 6,100 items of formal wear.
Save the date for Cherish the Children Friday April 19 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. The event will recognize Betty Regard with the Caroline Rose Hunt Cherish the Children Award.
