Yesterday, your bargaining team met with the District for the first time after our May 31
st rally downtown. Unfortunately, the District came back with essentially the same proposal that our members rejected on May 31
st. Mr. Nelson's claim that the District healthcare offer included lower deductibles is completely false. Mr. Nelson also stated that FUSD added $8.8M to address social/emotional needs. This is untrue as well. This has nothing to do with our contract, but instead was a separate proposal given to our school board, not our bargaining team. While we rejected the District's offer to jointly declare an impasse today, we are definitely going to mediation this summer.
We hope the District will tell the mediator why it refuses to discuss class sizes, SPED, meeting hours, teacher autonomy, and many other issues with us. It will be interesting to learn why they are not willing to use part of their 125 million dollar reserve to improve their 3.5%, 0%, 0% salary offer over three years.
We will need you to stand together to get the contract you deserve to improve education in Fresno Unified.
