Hello Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church!
My name is ZaNyaa Lee and I am the new Membership and Community Coordinator for Neighborhood UU. I am so excited to be here, and very much looking forward to learning more about all of you!
I was first introduced to UU when I replied to a posting for a Nursery Supervisor position with Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica. I remember googling it thinking, “What is a Unitarian Universalist?” It was brand new to me. I liked what I read, accepted the position, and stayed with the church as staff for nearly three years. During my time at Santa Monica I met many wonderful people and thought that maybe one day I would find my way back to learn a little more about UU outside of the nursery.
Fast forward to 2018, and I am happily working part-time as an adjunct professor of Life Long Learning for adults with brain injuries and disabilities with Mt. San Antonio Community College, and looking to add another position that I feel good about and in. I saw the posting with Neighborhood UU and remembered that my former real-life neighbor, Afton Hefley, was a part of this community and that my time with UU Santa Monica was definitely positive. So I applied, shared my faith, my personal mission, my heart and skills, and here I am!
I have a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Redlands and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from California State University Northridge. I am a certified life and career coach and infant massage specialist with an affinity for working with special needs, early education, and multicultural/multifaith populations. I have been married for a little over eight years to my best friend who is an opera singer. I live in the city of Glendale (for now 😉) and I love to travel, eat good food, live well, and love well.
Over the next few weeks I will be doing my best to attend as many group, committee, and event meetings as I can to really learn the story and culture of Neighborhood. I will be actively participating in:
- Welcome Committee
- Neighborhood People of Color
- Accessibility in Ministry
- Membership Committee (Yes, we’re revitalizing this committee!)
- Hospitality Committee (If you’re good with lighting and sound, we have a place for you!)
I will also be working with various individuals and groups within and outside of Neighborhood to keep growing and shining a light on this powerful community.
I will mostly be available by appointment, but will be here on Sundays and in the office most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Thank you for all of your warmth and regard thus far!
In Service and Gratitude,
