Mid-January already!  The holiday season just flies by in a flurry of festivity, social activities and parties.  Time to recover a bit, slow down and enjoy the season.

With so many friends and family coming to visit our corner of paradise, we include an article on one special attraction in our area, the Palm Beach Zoo.  You will find a link to many other fabulous Things to Do we have written about over the last 23 years.  Hard to believe but Laura started writing this NewsLetter, printing and stuffing envelopes for snail mail, soon after she moved in.

The Palm Beach Zoo   
 
As Palm Beach County's only top-rated Zoological experience, the Palm Beach Zoo is home to over 550 animals, many of them endangered. Their mission is to inspire people to act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world. A  unique tropical zoo showcases an animal collection (Malayan tigers, jaguars, Mexican spider monkeys, panther) from around the world, living in natural habitats. Enjoy shady paths, a colorful carousel, an interactive water play fountain, Nature Play Pavilion, a full-service restaurant, and 11 daily shows and keeper talks where you can watch animal trainings, feedings and meet zookeepers. Book a behind-the-scenes animal experience and get up close and personal with a sloth, koalas, capybaras, anteaters, Aldabra tortoises or mingle with flamingos.
 
Florida Pioneer Trail
The Florida Pioneer Trail showcases a recreation of a cypress swamp and features the following animals: American black bear, Florida panther, river otter, barn owl, barred owl, black vulture, turkey vulture, roseate spoonbill, scarlet ibis, American flamingo, black swan, coatimundi and American alligator.
 
Harriet W. and George D. Cornell Tropics of the Americas
This 18 million-dollar exhibit complex opened in 2004 and features animals and the Mayan culture found in Central and South America. The exhibit is located on a three-acre peninsula in the zoo. The exhibit features two Mayan pyramids that are over 40 feet tall, a nocturnal building displaying reptiles and bats, and a walk-through cave, among other displays. Capybara, blue and gold macaw, bush dog, jaguar, giant anteater, Baird's tapir, capuchin monkey and Mexican spider monkey are among the species exhibited in this complex.
 
Henry and Charlotte Kimelman Tiger Habitat
  
Koala Forest and Wallaby StationWallaby Station opened January 29, 2010, and Koala Forest opened on July 25, 2010. These exhibits display animals from Australia and surrounding islands. This area of the zoo exhibits Queensland koala, New Guinea singing dog, yellow-footed rock wallaby and demoiselle crane.
 
West Side 
West Side showcases an array of animals found throughout the world. These species include serval, Komodo dragon, siamang, ring-tailed lemur, red ruffed lemur, ocelot, scarlet macaw, Goeldi's monkey, golden lion tamarin, cottontop tamarin and fennec fox

BallenIsles Sales - 2018 Summary  

Not a banner year but certainly bright!  Compare this year's 68 Multiple Listing Service sales with 76 in 2017. Total sales with the inclusion of 6 sales not in the MLS brings the total to 74.  The trend is solid even with a decrease in sales this past year.  Inventory is extremely low with only 68 properties currently on the market which remains an extremely low number for a community of over 1580 residences.  Compare the 2018 average list/sold price $695,500/$634,000 and average cumulative days on the market of 176 to the 2017 average list/sold price $749,009/$802,04 and average market time of 184 days.  The market is somewhat depressed but holding fairly steady.  The opening of the amazing remodeled BallenIsles Clubhouse should stimulate sales for 2019.  It is a good time to reassess your needs and perhaps make a move.  Call us!  We can make your Real Estate dreams a reality.
