Welcome back to all our snowbird and snowflake friends.  We so love greeting returning friends and neighbors.  Everyone seems to have had a good summer and is ready to plunge into the Florida season!  

This month we feature in our new We Support section the BallenIsles Charties Foundation, a cause close to our hearts since its inception.  Learn more about this incredible "grass roots" effort BallenIsles residents give to with their time and generousity to benefit the larger community around us.  This year we are proud to be sponsoring An Evening in Monte Carlo.  Join us on January 25th!

BallenIsles Charities Foundation      

BallenIsles Charities Foundation offers those of us in a position to help others an amazing opportunity to give...not for the tax deduction (though there is that), not for the recognition, and not for some in-kind return. It is an outlet for your heart to express itself through meaningful giving that makes a difference locally. That giving may take a financial form (by giving to civic and tax-exempt organizations in the local area to provide needed programing) or a physical form. This year we initiated Volunteer Days where those who want to be 'hands-on' can help out by assisting Habitat for Humanity build homes and by packing food for the Palm Beach County Food Bank to be distributed to those in need.
 
The Foundation is a 100% volunteer organization. We have awarded over $3,000,000 to over 70 local organizations since our inception in 2011. Applicants for our grants must provide needed local services and programs in either Civic, Health & Human Services, Environmental and Educational spheres. Our grants committee reviews the specific programs, projects or equipment for which funding is sought and makes its recommendations based upon a number of factors, including the number of persons who will potentially benefit from the proposal and the ability of the organization to execute its proposed program. It is a laborious, analytical process to ensure that maximum benefit to the local community is achieved through the Foundation's grants.
 
Our just-released 2019 Annual Report provides details about the 46 organizations we assisted last year. Here is a spotlight on just three:
 
CENTER FOR TRAUMA COUNSELING - This Center offers hope, recovery and healing to victims of traumas such as accidents, natural disasters, death of a loved one, and abuse. This grant provides funding for emergency trauma therapy for approximately 25 - 30 children.
 
CARIDAD CENTER, INC. - Caridad offers comprehensive medical, vision and dental care to poor, uninsured and underserved members of our community through the services of over 700 professionals. This grant provides funding for a dental visit to 500 children of the working poor.
 
PALM BEACH GARDENS POLICE DEPT. - This grant provides funding for the Police One Online Academy Training Software program for one year for 115 officers, an important component in making our police force extremely effective.
 
As an all-volunteer organization, we would welcome your contributions of time, service or money - big or small - in helping us help others. Here are some upcoming events which might interest you:  
  • December 12 - Community Reception: Joshua Daniels from Habitat for Humanity is our guest speaker.
  • January 19 - Art & Home Tour
  • January 24 - 26: Our major fundraiser of the year - there's something for everybody!
    • Cards & Tiles Party (January 24) - Lunch and sweets & treats during play
    • An Evening in Monte Carlo (January 25) - Beyond gaming, there will be pop-up shops, dancing with music provided by a live DJ, complimentary food stations and wine & house liquor.
    • Tennis Pro-Am (January 25) - Eight pros are donating their time and the event is open to the first 24 registrants.
    • 9th Annual Golf Classic (January 26) - Both the North and East courses will be available for play for 250 registered golfers!
    • Closing Dinner & Auctions (January 26)
  • April: Four dates in April will be available for volunteers to pack for distribution to the needy.
