Two members spoke from the Baltimore Police Consent Decree Implementation Unit; they discussed what the consent decree is, and how it is being implemented. What is the Consent Decree? The Baltimore Police Department has been under an agreement with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to make changes ... "On April 7, 2017, the City of Baltimore and the Department of Justice entered into a Consent Decree, which is a court-enforceable agreement to resolve DOJ's findings that it believed the Baltimore City Police Department had engaged in a pattern and practice of conduct that violates the First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, and certain provisions of federal statutory law." The first Movie Night on the Little Italy Lodge parking lot was held in July as they aired Moonstruck. "It was such a fun night," said Christopher Pisano. "The weather gave us a run for our money," which kept the attendance low. The Lodge may be hosting additional Movie Nights with films such as Big Night and Cinema Paradiso, after some of its Friday Night Dinners. Plans are being discussed for the next possible date in September - stay tuned! Moonstruck was always the first movie shown at the previous Little Italy Film Fest which ran summers between 1999 through 2017.

"Mamma! Papà!" Help Italian exchange students
fulfill their dream of living and studying in America

A host mom hugs her exchange student in Manhattan Beach, California. The mom is one of many host families and has
hosted 12 students through the years - most of them Italian.

Dear friends of Baltimore's Italian community,
My Italian husband Livio Ceppi and I have attended many Italian festivals in the past and were able to reach out to local families interested in hosting Italian exchange students. We have a list of the bright young Italians hoping to find placements for the upcoming school year. We really want to help them - they deserve the experience they have been planning and dreaming of for years!
Host families provide students with love, a bed, and meals. Students have their own spending money and are fully insured for medical expenses. The student will attend your local high school. Being an exchange student is a life-changing experience for all involved, and thousands of new lifelong friendships are formed each school year.
Thank you so very much in advance.
Kind regards,
Director of Operations

"Much appreciation from our family for sharing the photo and write-up 'Marsiglia Family circa 1927' in Blast from the Past section of the June issue. Our family is honored to have this included in your newsletter."
~ Sandy Marsiglia Berry
"Thank you for your work in capturing this amazing place. My wife and I had never been to Baltimore before a few weeks ago and were only able to explore for half a day, but our hotel ended up being next to Little Italy, which I found after looking for a Catholic church close by. I had not expected a church like Saint Leo's which was just stunning! I converted to Catholicism in 2021 so it is still all quite overwhelming and such a blessing that the Saint Anthony Festival was happening the same day we were there! I began searching for more information and your book came up. Thanks again!"
~ Tyler Wentland, Maine
"I love reading this newsletter. Thank you."
~ Karen Fowler, Maryland
"I absolutely LOVE your publication...WELL DONE!"

"You do a fabulous job."

"We saw your Tommy article in June's Neighborhood News. Thanks so much! We also received the donation from Promotion Center for Little Italy. Again, thank you. If any group from Little Italy would like to come by for a visit and a tour of the museum, please let us know."

"I recently read that a new Columbus statue has been built, replicating the one that was torn down [July 4, 2020] and even using some of the material from the original statue. That is terrific and congratulations. A tremendous achievement. I hope that you are able to find a place where it can be protected and viewed by the public."
~ Tom Niczky, Bethpage, New York
EDITOR'S NOTE: The replicated statue is still at the sculptor's warehouse. The location where it will be placed is still unknown, according to Bill Martin of Columbus Celebrations, Inc. One correction he notes in the comment above is that material from the original statue was not used in the new statue. Instead, scans of a miniature statue and scans of some original pieces were used to create molds.
