Neighborhood News July 2022
Muray, an NCS client, has dreamed of becoming a professional fashion designer for a long time. When NCS’s vocational staff helped her connect with the Bombas Mentorship Program, she got “feet-on” industry experience like she never had before.

Last summer, Muray spent seven weeks working with her mentors at Bombas. She honed her design skills, learned the business side of the fashion industry, and designed socks of her own. Now, a year later, Muray’s socks are a part of Bombas’ Designed by Dreamers collection, which launched today!
You can purchase the socks here and be one of the first people to own one of Muray’s original designs.

Everyone at NCS is so proud of Muray, and we know she is just getting started. Thank you to NCS's vocational staff and everyone at Bombas who gave Muray this opportunity and set her on the path toward what we hope will be a very successful design career!
You can learn more about Muray's experience in the Bombas Mentorship Program here, and you can read about her sewing masks early in the pandemic for people who can't afford them here.

It would be great if you could share our Facebook post about Muray's new socks so that your friends and family can share in Muray's success (and maybe also buy her socks) -- but even just liking or commenting on the post makes a huge difference in how many people will see it.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Celebrating Innovation: A NextGen Network event on June 14th at Common Ground.

Together we raised more than $25,000!

All money raised at the event will support NCS’s new student housing pilot.
We were shocked when we learned that 14% of CUNY students experienced homelessness in 2019. And we’re taking action.

NCS has partnered with CUNY to address this issue with a pilot program that will provide year-round housing and support for unhoused college students. The program will address not only homelessness, but also the challenges that typically cause or accompany it.
Celebrating Innovation is an annual event hosted by the NextGen Network, which connects young professionals in their 20s and 30s who are committed to NCS’s mission. The Network provides meaningful opportunities to learn about and help address homelessness in NYC, volunteer at NCS programs, have fun at a variety of social events, raise money to support our mission, and build relationships with like-minded peers. You can learn more about the NextGen Network and join here.
40 New Donors Under 40!
In January, The NextGen Network leadership set a goal of recruiting 40 new donors under 40 years old in celebration of NCS's 40th anniversary.

We are excited to announce that we met the goal with six months left to go! Congratulations to the NextGen Network Committee for making this happen.

Welcome to all of the new NCS supporters. We hope that you will continue to support our clients in the years and decades to come as we continue to provide essential services to homeless and formerly homeless New Yorkers. We are thrilled to welcome the next generation of supporters to the NCS community.

If you're under 40 and haven't participated-there's still time! You can make a donation here to be counted toward our 40 under 40 total.
