Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter | September 2022
Neighborhood News September 2022
Three years ago, BC lived in a homeless shelter and struggled with substance use. Her challenging path to recovery improved when she started attending meetings at Chance for Chance, NCS’s outpatient substance-use treatment program.

BC loved attending Chance for Change meetings, sometimes going as often as five days per week. The attentive staff members were able to help BC work through her issues, but there was still one big one weighing on her: she wanted a permanent place to call home.

“I cried every day because I wanted to get out of the shelter,” BC said about her experience.

Fortunately, our staff referred BC to fill a vacancy at the NCS Residence. She has lived there comfortably for the past three years.

Now, along with continuing to participate in Chance for Change meetings, she has her own apartment and access to additional case management and other supports when she needs them.

“I’m glad that I got a place to stay,” BC shared. “I have a home, and I’m doing okay.”
After a few years of having to cancel in-person staff events, we were all so excited to spend the day together at Riverbank State Park. We shared food, played games, enjoyed music, and some staff got to meet colleagues from other program sites for the first time! Our team works hard every day, and it felt fantastic to take a day to celebrate their dedication to our clients.
Having non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food on hand is a key part of caring for our residents who cannot always travel to find food for themselves. You can help us maintain our supply by sending us food items from our Amazon wish list!

Click here to access the list, then add the item or items you wish to donate to your cart, and they’ll be sent to the NCS Residence for our residents to enjoy.

Want to make an even greater impact? Share our Facebook post with the wish list so your friends can help feed our residents too!

It's a great way to honor Hunger Action Month in September!
