Alderman Reilly Reports

Neighborhood Notice:

Mexican Independence Day

(Unsanctioned) Celebrations

As reported in Reilly Reports last week, unsanctioned celebrations related to Mexican Independence Day took place last night. Alderman Reilly is extremely disappointed with the illegal fireworks, excessive horn honking, drag racing and drifting, and the large number of cars and caravans that descended on the Downtown neighborhoods.

Although aldermen do not control the Chicago Police Department’s (CPD) resources, strategy, tactics or deployments, Alderman Reilly sent a letter to Superintendent Brown requesting a plan and extra police resources to manage this event. Please click here to review the letter.

Unfortunately, these unsanctioned celebrations may continue this weekend. Alderman Reilly has asked Superintendent Brown for a more aggressive street closure plan and for more police officers to be detailed to the downtown police districts for the remainder of the weekend. He has also asked CPD to enforce ordinance violations for illegal fireworks, excessive noise and curfew violations.

Alderman Reilly encourages residents to allow for extra travel time when traveling in the area.
