Community shares ideas, vision, goals for their neighborhoods

This summer and early fall, Denver's city planners have been collecting comments from residents, business owners and other community stakeholders--both out in the community and online--to help draft a vision for the planning areas where the Neighborhood Planning Initiative is currently active: Far Northeast, East and East Central.

Planners have attended community events and meetings to talk about the planning process and hear directly from community members. Additionally, our online surveys have drawn thousands of respondents across the three plan areas who have shared what they like and dislike and their ideas to improve where they live, work and play.

For Far Northeast, the resulting vision statements will now guide the rest of the planning process. The East and East Central surveys will remain open until November (links available below), and the planning team will begin developing visions for these areas, based on what the community has suggested.

What's New in the Far Northeast Area Plan?

More than 80 Attend Public Meeting #2

Held jointly with Blueprint Denver, the citywide initiative to update Denver's land use and transportation plan, the second community meeting for the Far Northeast Plan was a big success, with more than 80 gathering September 13 at Maxwell Elementary in Montbello. Attendees shared their thoughts on the draft vision of the Far Northeast plan and reviewed Blueprint Denver's draft place map for the area.


Steering Committee Finalizes Vision

The final vision statements that will guide the development of the rest of the plan are now up on the plan website. Steering Committee members finalized the vision after the community meeting, using the feedback provided at the meeting and online. The next step will be to identify the specific issues the plan will address, which will be the topic of the next public meeting.

The next public meeting in the planning process will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 30 at the Evie Garrett Dennis Student Union, 4800 Telluride Street. More details will be available closer to the date.

Residents share ideas for neighborhood improvements
Kickoff Survey Closes end of November

More than a thousand locals have taken the online kickoff survey for the East Central Area Plan, and more than 1,400 have taken the kickoff survey for the East Area Plan. If you still haven't taken the survey, there's still time! The surveys will remain online until the end of November.


Host a Mapping Workshop

City planners have also been doing mapping workshops at neighborhood meetings and events throughout both planning areas. Interested in having a member of the planning teams attend your meeting? Contact the appropriate project manager below.


Next Steps

Beginning in 2018, all the comments and ideas that community members have been providing will start to take shape into a shared community vision for each planning area. Stay up on additional opportunities to participate by signing up for plan updates.

About the Neighborhood Planning Initiative
Denver's  Neighborhood Planning Initiative is a new long-term commitment to ensure every corner of the city can enjoy the benefits of an area plan. Over the next 10 to 14 years, residents, neighborhood groups, and community leaders will work alongside the city's neighborhood planning team to create a vision and plan for their specific area.
