Neighbors Helping Neighbors:
Days of Caring Initiative Will Help Feed Henderson County Residents
Local Neighborhood Unites to Fight Food Insecurity
We are so grateful to Linda and Harold Showalter, who are supporting our 2021 Days of Caring initiative with their Mountain Valley neighbors!

In addition to their neighborhood food drive, Linda clicked the “Create a Team” button on our fundraising platform and invited all of her Mountain Valley neighbors to give.

So far, their team has raised $1,000, which was matched to make a $2,000 gift for local food pantries! We are so grateful to our Mountain Valley Estates neighbors for their teamwork and support!
To date, the Mountain Valley neighborhood has collected over 300 food items that will be donated to a local food pantry!
30 Days to Go to Make a Difference for 13 Local Food Pantries
At United Way, we work every day to make life better for everyone in our community. One in five adults and one in four children are experiencing food insecurity in Henderson County, as a result of economic challenges created by the COVID-19 health crisis. And right now, our community food pantries need our help as they are experiencing unprecedented need.

That's why earlier this month, we pivoted our annual Days of Caring volunteer days to a food- and fund-raising effort to support 13 local food pantries. All funds collected through April 30th will be evenly distributed among those food pantries to support their important work.

We need your help! Text UWCARES to 71777 or click here to get involved.

You can:
  • Make a financial gift to support 13 local food pantries
  • Create a team (like Linda and Harold!) to raise awareness and funds from friends, family or co-workers
  • Coordinate a food drive*
  • Purchase and assemble Kids' Snack Packs*

*UWHC will provide interested individuals and groups with suggested donation lists and connections to a local food pantry. Any questions about these volunteer initiatives can be directed to Kat Carlton at, or by phone at 828-692-1636 x1104.
