What's Happening at CANV?

Senior Appreciation Day

August 21 is celebrated as National Senior Citizen’s Day in the United States. It was officially founded by the former President of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan in 1988. The day is intended to increase awareness of the factors and issues that affect older adults, such as health deterioration, and elder abuse. It is also a day to recognize and acknowledge the contributions of older people to society.

CANV celebrated Senior Appreciation Day by providing produce bags, toiletry goodies, puzzles, blankets, and emergency preparedness tips from the Calistoga Fire Dept and Napa Police Department to seniors at Rancho de Calistoga. Collaborating with Cheniere Energy we served over 60 seniors a free brunch catered by the local the Q Restaurant & Bar.

Watch the Latest CANV VLOG above for highlights from Senior Appreciation Day.

It was a great reminder to take a few minutes out of your day and thank those who represent such a very thoughtful, experienced, and motivating generation who are always there for us and to guide us .

The Napa Pantry is Relocating!

On 8/25 the Napa Food Pantry located at 1746 Yajome St. was closed. We will remain from 8/29 - 8/31 and then re-open at our temporary location at 2625 First St. (New Life Tabernacle Church) on 9/5/23. The pantry will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday 9:00 AM-12:00 PM and 1:00 PM-4:00 PM by appointment. We have purchased a property and will be moving to a permanent home following this brief relocation.

Call the CANV office at 707-253-6128 with any questions.

Disaster Relief for Maui

Those of us in Napa County know just how devastating the fires in Maui are and what effect they have on the community. It is times like these that food banks and other resources are so important to those who have suffered losses.

With that in mind, CANV would like to share how you can support the Maui Food Bank during this time of need by going to https://mauifoodbank.org/ and making an online donation.

Meals On Wheels Spotlight

America’s seniors are lonely, and, as a nation, we’ve allowed them to fall into the shadows. Families are living farther away and neighbors are more strangers than ever before. We all have the power to help change that by sharing heartwarming stories and doing acts of kindness. That’s why Meals on Wheels America, along with celebrity supporters, has launched the #RespectYourElders campaign to garner support for America’s aging population and raise awareness for the importance of honoring seniors nationwide. Click on the video above to hear a heartwarming story from Danny Burstein about a cab driver's most memorable fare: Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Napa High Schoolers Lending a Helping Hand at The Food Bank

This amazing group from Justin-Siena High School volunteered at the Food Bank in August. The great team helped with scrutinizing incoming product, identifying/labeling the non-food section to upload into PantrySOFT, prepared the Silver Fox boxes, and assisted with sanitizing throughout the warehouse.

Thank you to the young heroes in our community!

Mustards Grill Raises $19,000 to benefit CANV Programs

Mustards Grill, the iconic Napa Valley roadhouse created by legendary Chef Cindy Pawlcyn, celebrated its 40th anniversary by auctioning off 40 premium magnums of wine from some of wine country’s most celebrated vintners and growers, raising $19,000 to benefit CANV. Bob & Nina Klotz were the high bidders.

Thank you for supporting CANV and those in need across Napa County!
