To our community,
Water is one of our most precious resources, and we know that businesses have a responsibility to be good stewards of this resource. Guided by our Global Water Policy and 2030 corporate responsibility goals, Intel is working towards achieving net-positive water in our global operations by 2030.
Today, we’re pleased to share some exciting news as we work towards this goal: Intel’s operations in the United States, Costa Rica, and India are officially net positive on water use, restoring more freshwater than we use in our operations.
Keep reading to learn more about this announcement, what it means for our New Mexico site, and other updates from Intel in New Mexico – including our recent fire relief efforts and the conclusion of our annual grant cycle partnering with Corrales Mainstreet.
And on a personal note, I’m excited to say that, after two and a half years as an intern, I have joined the Intel New Mexico Public Affairs team full-time as our New Mexico Communications and Media Manager! I’m looking forward to engaging with you now and into the future.

Intel achieves net positive water in three countries
|
|
Intel announced today that our operations in the United States, Costa Rica, and India are officially net positive on water use. In those countries, Intel restores more freshwater than we take in.
This achievement reflects Intel’s long-running commitment to conserve water and minimize our impact on the planet – one that goes beyond the bounds of Intel’s campuses and is motivated by more than just saving money on the water bill. We could not have achieved this milestone without our strong partnerships with environmental nonprofits and local government or our water stewardship investments.
Locally, Intel has partnered with several nonprofits – including the National Forest Foundation, Trout Unlimited, and Audubon New Mexico – and funded three water restoration projects supporting New Mexico watersheds to restore more than 100 million gallons of water each year. Last year, the New Mexico site also conserved more than 555 million gallons of water and returned more than 100% of the site’s water usage to the environment and community, achieving net positive water locally for the third year in a row.
It’s exciting that we’ve achieved this milestone, but we’re not stopping here – now, we are focused on reaching net positive water in the rest of the locations where we operate.

Supporting New Mexico fire relief
|
|
In response to recent fires in northern New Mexico, the Intel Foundation provided a special matching campaign for employees. This campaign, benefitting the American Red Cross, All Together NM Fund via the Santa Fe Community Foundation, and Collaborative Visions, raised over $60,000 thanks to employee contributions and the Intel Foundation’s 100% match. These donations will soon be distributed to the organizations as they continue to provide much-needed support for New Mexicans in the northern part of the state.
At the New Mexico site, our employee volunteers also helped donate needed items to those impacted by the fires, including water, snacks, and animal goods. If you would like to help support relief efforts in northern New Mexico, donations made to All Together NM Fund will go to emergency shelter, food and water distribution, and other critical services.
