Netflix documentary The Bleeding Edge takes on device companies and the FDA
I learned more about the FDA and device marketing in this two hour documentary than I have in the last 20 years working in healthcare.

It was really uncomfortable watching this show explore the intentions of many well-known device companies like:
  • Bayer
  • Depuy Synthesis (J&J)
  • daVinci (Intuitive Surgical)

The challenges raised in the documentary very well may have forced Bayer to take its permanent non-surgical sterilization device Essure off the market.

This is a must watch documentary for all of those in the device industry. We have set up a forum for comment on the National Accounts website at the below link.

UPMC receives approval for $400M expansion plan
The Pittsburgh City Council approved UPMC's proposal for a $400 million expansion. Despite objections from area residents, union members, and community activists, the city council approved the project in a 7-2 vote after a councilman negotiated with the hospital giant.

In the negotiations, UPMC agreed to provide an addiction clinic, mental health services and job opportunities for minorities as it moves forward with its construction plans. The $400 million project is part of a $2 billion system-wide expansion UPMC announced last year.
