A recent study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA), led by Rutgers Dean and Network member Dr. Cecile Feldman, highlights the benefits of non-opioid pain management following third molar extractions. The "Opioid Analgesic Reduction Study" involved 1,815 adults and compared ibuprofen and acetaminophen to hydrocodone with acetaminophen. Results showed that the non-opioid group experienced significantly less pain and higher satisfaction. These findings support reducing routine opioid prescriptions in dentistry, aligning with the American Dental Association’s recommendations. For more details, read the full JADA article.
