Welcome to the February 28 issue of the Quality Insights Renal Network 4 e-newsletter. To support the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) recently issued Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers Final Rule, ASPR TRACIE has been providing technical assistance and sharing helpful resources and promising practices. Yale New Haven Health just released results from a crosswalk that mapped various emergency- and disaster-related standards to the CMS Rule. And they recently updated the CMS EP Rule: Resources at Your Fingertips document, which includes links to key resources, such as CMS' fourth round of frequently asked questions (FAQ) and clarifications on definitions.

Quality Insights Quality Innovation Network is hosting a live rebroadcast of a program offered on February 9 that focuses on Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship and Why it Matters. This event will introduce healthcare providers to the new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship project. Quality Insights will address the important work that it's preparing for and go over the four core elements specific to outpatient antibiotic stewardship.

This free webinar is for any outpatient facility (such as emergency departments, urgent care centers, physician practices, outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgical centers and dialysis centers) that is interested in becoming a part of the Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship Learning and Action Network (LAN). Quarterly Network Council meetings in 2017 will center around the topics of Patient Engagement and the Patient Representative Program.  Each facility is REQUIRED to have a facility staff representative attend one of the meetings EACH quarter.

PennStatePenn state college of medicine presents an Update on chronic kidney disease
Penn State College of Medicine, in partnership with The Kidney Foundation of Central PA, Lancaster General Health, Pinnacle Health and Quality Insights Renal Network 4, will be presenting an Update on Chronic Kidney Disease on Tuesday, April 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hotel Hershey in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Network 4's Executive Director, Chris Brown, will be presenting information about CROWNWeb and CMS' Quality Incentive Program (QIP) requirements.  Other sessions to note include the breakout sessions around the topic of Arterial-Venous Fistula Cannulation Camp Techniques. These include Fistula Maturation and Cannulation Readiness; Hands-on Cannulation Skills; and Vascular Access Assessment. Registration prior to April 24 will be $85 per person, which includes meals, handouts and refreshments. Registration after April 24 will be $110. Continuing education credits may be available. Learn more and register today

Philadelphia Area
  • University City, PA: CHOPed: Mastering the Renal Diet is a free cooking program held from July 20-24 at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College. It is for adolescents and teens ages 11 to 18 years who have chronic kidney disease. Email Nina Foster or call 267-425-3934.
  • Blue Bell, PA: Camp Jeremy is a week-long day camp for children ages 6 to 16 years who have undergone a life-saving organ transplant, and their siblings.
Central and Western Pennsylvania
  • Ligonier, PA: Kidney Kamp is held from in the first week of August for children of all ages who have PD, who are pre-dialysis or on hemodialysis, or who have had a transplant. Read more about Kidney Kamp. 
  • Millville, PA: Camp Kydnie is held from July 5-10 for children ages 6 to 16 years who have kidney disease or have had a transplant, and their siblings or friends.

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) will be holding the Spring Clinical Meetings in Orlando, FL on April 18 through 22. Learn more and register .
