Listening to the Voices of Children During the Pandemic
Listening to the voices of our children has never been more paramount than it is right now. Please take a moment to hear what children from all over the country had to say about the pandemic and more importantly about what they wish the adults around them understood during this time. Click here to watch the video shared by Jewish Family Service of Rochester.
Help Us Ensure No One Goes Hungry
Since the pandemic began in March, Jewish Family Service of Colorado's Weinberg Food Pantry has seen a 400% increase from their normal operations, and the number of people facing food insecurities continues to increase daily. September was their busiest month yet; 7,157 individuals from 1,943 households received 2,923 food boxes! JFS staff and volunteers also deliver food to older adults and individuals with compromised immune systems who cannot safely leave their homes.
$200,000 – 222 households – 716 community members
In response to this crisis, the generous East Bay community stepped up. With your support, in the past seven months, Jewish Family & Community Services of East Bay distributed $200,000 in rental and food assistance to 222 households, representing 716 of our community members. Our amazing volunteers have also delivered 30 tons of donated produce and shelf-stable food boxes. At the same time, we have been providing all our core programs remotely—mental health support, case management, senior and Holocaust survivor services, immigration legal services, and much more.

Jewish Family Service of Detroit is proud to announce its eighth consecutive 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the leading charity evaluator in America. It is the highest possible rating and indicates that JFS adheres to sector best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way. Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that JFS of Metro Detroit demonstrates strong financial health and a commitment to accountability and transparency. Only 5% of the charities evaluated by Charity Navigator have received at least 8 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that JFS outperforms most other charities in the country.

Jewish Community Addiction Services Launches Facebook Page

Jewish Family & Children's Service of Minneapolis' Jewish Community Addiction Services has launched a new Facebook page to facilitate outreach and foster support for the local Jewish recovery community. Physical distancing—while necessary to curb the spread of coronavirus—lends itself to isolation, a major factor in addiction. The Jewish Community Addiction Services Facebook page will promote fellowship and mutual aid to counter this isolation. The page will offer virtual recovery-focused gatherings/events, culturally-appropriate Jewish recovery resources, informational articles and educational presentations, and community support for recovery.
JEVS Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act
The 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act provides JEVS Human Services with the opportunity to reflect on our responsibility to protect and advance the rights of people with disabilities, and to reiterate our commitment to advocating for the work that still needs to be done. While we take time to celebrate these anniversaries and the progress made, we know there is still much work to do. For example, a federal law still exists that allows employers to pay workers with disabilities less than minimum wage. In Pennsylvania, 5,712 people are currently receiving less than minimum wage, oftentimes much less, according to the Employment First Oversight Commission.
Thrive Counseling Supports the Ann Arbor Community During COVID
September was National Suicide Prevention month, and while this article is late, it is always the right time to lift up the dialogue around suicide and mental health so that we may collectively reduce stigma, raise awareness, and increase prevention. At Thrive Counseling and throughout the programs offered at Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County, there is focus placed on the safety and well-being of the clients and families served.

These totes contained age-appropriate materials that clients will use during their virtual therapy sessions.
