The topic for our August virtual walk was inspired by World Breastfeeding Week, a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanise action on themes related to breastfeeding. Nevada AAP pediatrician members work with Nevada mothers of newborns to support them follow the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation that breastfeeding be the sole source of nutrition for your baby for about 6 months and can be continued for as long as both mother and baby desire it.

In addition, here in Nevada, families who qualify can take advantage of WIC Breastfeeding Support. WIC Breastfeeding Support is designed to provide breastfeeding information to WIC moms, their families, and friends. To participate in Nevada WIC, you must be a pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum woman or be a child under the age of 5 who is a Nevada resident with moderate to low income (EX: a family of 4 must make $48,470/year or less to qualify for WIC benefits). In addition, beneficiaries of Medicaid, SNAP or TANF are also eligible to receive WIC benefits. Nevada WIC also offers no cost lactation support, breast pumps and breast pump accessories.
