Workforce Development Update:

Workforce Development Update
Nevada Builders is continually working to develop new partnerships and strengthen existing ones in order to create and promote clear career pathways for our industry. We recognize that Workforce Development is a top priority for our members and the industry as a whole across the state. There are several partners that can be great resources to our member companies when you are looking for skilled workers, so please reach out to us to help you with those needs.

In order for us to better focus our workforce development efforts, we have created a short survey about your hiring and workforce needs. Please take the time to fill it out. It will only take a few minutes and the information can be very valuable to us. And the best part is you could win a $100 Amazon gift card!! Take the survey here.

We continue to visit local schools for career days and classroom presentations. Each month we will provide a schedule of upcoming events. If you are interested in joining us, let us know.  There is no better way to convince kids that a career in construction is a great one than by having those of you who work in the industry every day tell them your story.

Upcoming dates are:

                                  3/1      Galena H.S. - class presentation 10:45 am to 12:30 pm

Preventing Back-over Accidents

When you have construction vehicles operating along-side workers who are maneuvering the job on foot, there is an inherent danger of back-over accidents that can occur.  There are many solutions to preventing back-over, yet these kinds of accidents are still a common cause of injury every year in the construction industry.  What can you do to protect your employees from back-over accidents?  Make sure all audio backup alarms are working properly.  Even when back up alarms are functional, workers can become complacent and alarms become background noise after a while.  Teach workers to not only rely on back up alarms but to actively avoid vehicle blind spots.  To do this, you must train them.  Blind spots can vary depending on the equipment.  Take the time to explain specific equipment that they will be exposed to on the job.  Using spotters to direct drivers on back-ups is also an effective way to prevent back-overs.  There are many other ways to help prevent back-overs, from rear facing video cameras, proximity detection devices and internal traffic control plans.  Doing whatever it takes to protect lives on the job is always worth your time and money.  For more information on preventing back-over accidents, or other construction industry safety questions or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, and we will be happy to assist when you visit us at www.pgmnv.com or call (800) 859-3177.
