From the CEO...
The legislature is one month in and there is no shortage of proposals.  I would urge our members to review and understand the impacts of bills like AB 120, AB 153 and   AB 154.  We will continue to work with our industry friends and business organizations to defend your interests.  Please let your representatives know how you feel and let us know how we can help...

Are you looking to expand your workforce? The Workforce 60 Program is still in full force. Through our partnership with JOIN, Inc. we are able to provide entry-level training for qualified individuals and place them with our member companies. As an employer, the program will reimburse you up to 100% for up to 8 weeks of On the Job training. This can also work for current or possible new hires who need additional training and current employees who need to sharpen their skills in order to be promoted.

Safety Meetings that Work

Safety meetings can become monotonous and ineffective over time.  That is if the meetings are happening at all.  In the construction industry, production can sometimes move so fast that safety meetings can be hurried or canceled altogether.  The safety meeting can mean so much more to your employees when you make the meetings specific to hazards they are facing that day or that week.  It is also an important time for the persons responsible for safety and leadership to look over the crew to make sure everyone looks fit and ready to perform their work duties.  This opportunity should be used to present and answer any questions about the work to be completed and how we are going to accomplish the work safely.  Employees will appreciate the information if they understand how the meeting applies to them.  Reminding them to be focused on the work while taking care of themselves and looking out for each other is a great way to start the day.  In construction, worker safety should be top priority along with quality and production.  Take the time to talk to your workers about how they are going to make it through the day and how following their safety program policies and procedures can help keep them safe.
For more information on effective safety meetings, or other construction industry safety questions or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, and we will be happy to assist when you visit us at www.pgmnv.com or call (800) 859-3177.
