Supervisors Approve New Nevada County Youth Commission

Nevada County is the first rural county and the eighth in California to create a local Youth Commission. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the creation of the commission at their Tuesday, August 8th meeting.  


The Youth Commission is a group of volunteers aged 14-19 who either reside within Nevada County or are enrolled in Nevada County schools. Its mission is to identify, connect, and advocate for issues facing young people in Nevada County.

Nevada County Awards $388,840 in Second Round of Outdoor Visitor Safety Fund Grants

This week, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors approved a second round of awards, totaling $388,480, in Outdoor Visitor Safety Fund Program grants. The funds, which were granted to eight eligible entities, will help to increase resiliency and promote health and safety at highly impacted outdoor recreation destinations.

Nevada County Connects invites fairgoers to ride our new electric bus (ebus) and enjoy free fares to the fair! The ebus will be making appearances daily throughout the fair.


Take your nearest bus route to the Tinloy Transfer Center in downtown Grass Valley and catch our free shuttle to the main gate of the Fairgrounds. Hop on, skip the traffic, and enjoy the ride. All transit services are free through Sunday.

OES to Host Community Wildfire Protection Plan Lunch & Learns


The Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is hosting four virtual  Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Lunch & Learns this month and the public is invited to join. The Lunch & Learns will be the first set of community workshops that support the CWPP update. These meetings will be hour-long workshops hosted online from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, organized geographically by Forecast Zones.

Supervisors Hear Possible Benefits of New Electricity Option

Three board members of Pioneer Community Energy urged the Board of Supervisors Tuesday to consider partnering with them for a new option for electricity service.

 

Pioneer Board Chair and Auburn Mayor Alice Dowdin Calvillo, Grass Valley City Council member Tom Ivy, and Nevada City Vice Mayor Gary Petersen said the County could have more local control over electricity service if it adopts a Community Choice Aggregation plan with them.
