Portrait of Ed Scofield

Message from the Chair, Supervisor Ed Scofield: Board Objectives Quarterly Report

Fiscal stability has remained our top priority while I’ve served on the Board of Supervisors over the last 15 years. This has allowed us to make great progress on what matters most to the community, from wildfire to economic development. I’m proud of the County’s recently approved $367.8 million budget for fiscal year 2023-24, which includes $27 million in new revenue for public safety, healthcare and housing -- all important board priorities.

Clean Tahoe Receives $15,000 to Remove Litter in Truckee Area

Clean Tahoe, a nonprofit that has served South Lake Tahoe for 35 years, was awarded a $15,000 yearlong contract on Tuesday to pick up trash in the unincorporated parts of eastern Nevada County.

The contract runs from October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024, and was approved by the Board of Supervisors at its regular meeting in Truckee this week. Clean Tahoe will provide 10 hours per month of trash cleanup.

“I think people want somewhere to call and know that something’s going to happen when it comes to trash,” said Katie Sheehan, executive director of Clean Tahoe. “That’s a big benefit we offer.”

The contract will be a pilot project to evaluate the level of trash service that is needed in the future. Supervisor Hardy Bullock, who represents the eastern part of the county, said he is excited about the partnership. “I’d like to see it expanded to areas in western county where we have problem areas,” he said, adding that he is opening to working with other organizations as well. “I’m a huge supporter of doing this countywide.”

Clean Tahoe began in 1988 when a citizens’ committee concerned about illegal dumping asked the City of South Lake Tahoe to address the problem. A clean-up program was funded with a yearly surcharge on residents’ trash bills and a yearly charge per improved parcel on El Dorado County. In 1994, Clean Tahoe became a nonprofit corporation. Clean Tahoe currently has contracts for litter removal with both Placer County and Truckee.
