OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROGRAMS AND YOUTH

VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest Presented by Janice Allen
The contest empowers children in grades K-5 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.
  • Stories can be mailed or hand delivered to Vegas PBS at: 3050 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89121
  • Stories and entry forms also can be emailed to jrussell@vegaspbs.org. (PDF files strongly preferred.)
StandUP is celebrating the launch of The Flourish Lab and we are on a mission to find the most amazing OST Educators in our nation in Honor of "Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week” from April 25 - April 29, 2022.
We are asking for nominations of OST educators who are making a difference in the lives of young people.
Nomination deadline Monday, April 18th.
“Speaking Up About Mental Health! This Is My Story” National Essay Challenge

This contest aims to start conversations about mental health and encourage young people to seek help for mental health issues. U.S. high school students ages 16-18 are invited to submit a short essay.
Deadline April 30th.
 Coolest Projects online is a celebration of creativity and innovation where young people can showcase what they’ve made with technology. This is a FREE and virtual event for youth under 18 to share their coding creations with a global audience. 

Coolest Projects is an initiative run by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and we welcome projects of all levels and stages. The project doesn't have to be finished! Project registration closes on May 11, 2022, and we are hosting an online showcase and live-streamed ceremony, meaning young creators can join from anywhere in the world! Check out last year's showcase for inspiration!
FREE Lead Water Testing For NV Childcare Facilities
Licensed child care centers in Nevada can now enroll in the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Lead Testing Program. Test kits, technical assistance, and follow-up support are available at no cost to screen for lead in tap water used for drinking and preparing food.

This program is open to all licensed childcare providers, including daycares, home-based childcare services, childcare centers, and more.

DOS CERTIFICATION TRAINING
The training process involves a two-day live webinar training, completion of video calibration exercises, a one-hour live calibration session, and successful completion of two practice observation in the field.

Million Girls Moonshot
The Million Girls Moonshot Toolkit is a collection of resources and tools for all 50 Mott Afterschool States Networks, their partners and programs, to utilize for the Million Girls Moonshot Initiative. All transformative practice resources have been vetted using a culturally responsive and equity lens to foster inclusive STEM learning spaces for all youth, particularly girls. 
STEM Teaching Tools are Open Education Resources developed by the University of Washington Institute for Science + Math Education and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The tools offer bite-sized summaries of key STEM topics, as well as professional learning tools. Each tool is developed by researchers and teachers.
