NYC COUNCIL, DISTRICT 10
September 11th, 2013
Dear Friends,
Twelve years ago today, our city came to grips with true fear, as nearly 3,000 New Yorkers had their lives extinguished in a single blow. This tragedy sent shockwaves through the country, as all Americans felt the impact of the 9/11 attacks; but none more than the families who lost mothers, fathers, husbands and wives. But through this tragedy, our city rose up, came together and reminded us that we are resilient; we are a city that picks up our fellow New Yorkers and places all of our desires and wants into perspective.
So as we look back on the time that has passed in the twelve years, we must carry this spirit with us always. We are all New Yorkers, regardless of race, gender or creed-and we always stand for our brothers and sisters in times of great need. While much has changed in this time, we must always remember those who gave their lives to save others that day, those who lost their lives in an act of terrible violence and the families that have been so devastated by loss. I encourage you all today to take a moment to look back, reflect and try to recapture the spirit of humanity that all New Yorkers had as we were forced to rebuild, because that is the spirit of true brotherhood and sisterhood, true solidarity, and it is what makes me so proud to call myself a New Yorker.
Never Forget.
Sincerely,
Ydanis Rodriguez
