Pride & Protests — An Insider's Explanation of Current Events
Recent headlines have once again shed light on corruption and violence in the Caribbean nation of Haiti. Rather than take our media’s interpretation of current events at face value, we asked a native Haitian—our partner Pastor Samuel Metelus—to explain it to us. Click here to read Sam's own words as he talks pride and politics.
Generous Gift Means School Will Open in September 2019
It was totally unexpected and took everyone's breath away. On March 31st, Mariners Church gifted Pastor Samuel with a check for $211,000. This incredible gift was the result of the congregation's generosity during Global Outreach Weekend and is the exact amount needed to complete Phase I of the school build in Torbeck. Construction has already begun, and Sam and his team are planning to welcome 342 students to Collège Lumière in kindergarten through 4th grade this coming September!
Shedding Light on Mariners’ Mysterious “Convene”
Often confused with another event by a similar name, the Global Convene Gathering that takes place annually is a mystery to most of us. We know those in attendance are global church leaders from North America, Central America, the Carribean, Europe, Asia and Africa. But just what do they do for three days behind closed-doors? Click here for a behind-the-scenes look into this global pastor's retreat.
Moving Day = Serve Opportunity
Calling all volunteers! We're going to need A LOT of help moving furniture from Mariners Christian School into shipping containers headed to Haiti. This move will take place the first or second week of June. If you're interested in helping, please email Dave Watkins. We're currently collecting names and will be in touch as soon as we have more details.
