Update

Greetings, farewell, and thank you!

It’s been an honor and privilege to serve as your New and Related Services (NRS) vice president over the last three years. Along with a phenomenal policy committee leading each of your sections, it’s been a pleasure working alongside each of you as members during this time. Early in my career as a career and technical education (CTE) teacher, a retiring mentor shared her life motto, “Always leave things better than you found them.” My hope is that the division is in a better place, and I am confident that our new vice president, Susan Leon, will build upon the foundation of past leaders and that I am leaving you in good hands. The support and encouragement have been immeasurable, and I am excited to continue on as a member of NRS and witness the great things ahead. To all of you, my NRS family, THANK YOU! I value and treasure you and look forward to connecting with you at future ACTE events.

Greetings from Vice President-Elect, Susan Leon

Spring season is here! Along with the flowers blooming, there is excitement in the air with CTSO competition season and programs anticipating end-of-the-year activities. I recently got back from the NPS conference and am excited that I was able to advocate for CTE on behalf of all the wonderful educators in the nation. I also got to learn much about my new role from Rachael and the ACTE staff. I am looking forward to serving you and supporting the division.

JROTC_Drone.png

Exciting news for JROTC programs in Alabama. The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) has given each JROTC program a $5,000 grant to purchase equipment relating to Drone technology and/or Cyber Security training initiatives. These funds will further enhance our ability to integrate STEM into our curriculum.

In addition, ALSDE recently sponsored a JROTC Cadet State Leadership Conference in Montgomery, Alabama. The Cadet State Officers hosted the entire event and provided a fantastic example of junior leadership for units across the State.

Finally, the University of South Alabama Senior Army ROTC hosted a “Best Raider Team Competition” on their campus pitting the best male and female cadets against their peers in an extremely challenging event! Cadets encountered a series of obstacle courses along with the new Army physical fitness challenge. Needless to say, they were totally exhausted at the end of the grueling competition but were proud to have represented their respective schools. Great job by all!
