Summer Quarterly News Update | |
Congratulations on the beginning of another wonderful school year. In Arizona, we start at the beginning of August, so things are in full swing.
Arizona CTE is excited to host you for this year’s VISION conference! If you haven’t already, now is the time to sign up and secure the early bird registration rate.
Attending VISION is the best professional development you can participate in, and let’s be honest … most of you will be dealing with some cold temperatures come the end of November. The average temperature in Phoenix at that time will be 70 degrees, perfect for some sunshine to complement your professional learning!
As always, there is much going on with our division. Please read the news below to update yourself with ACTE and NRS Division happenings. Our friends at LAPSEN (Law and Public Safety Educators Network) and IVETA (International Vocational Education and Training Accreditation) will have their national conferences alongside VISION. See below for more information on both.
For this month’s Section Spotlight, I am honored to feature Mr. Michael Moriarty, Section Lead for the Tech Prep Section.

Section Spotlight
As a longtime educator, Michael P. Moriarty, NBCT, has not only focused on students and their teachers — he has worked to teach and promote ways that what students learn is relevant to workforce development and a path to high road career pathways, in particular, advanced manufacturing. Moriarty is a high school mathematics educator who taught in Chicago’s Southside for seven years, seeing the importance of relevant learning for mathematics to take hold for students who do not have their basic needs met. Since 2013, he has served at the CTU Foundation Quest Center for Professional Learning, where he supports a range of initiatives for educator professional development, environmental justice, and career pathways school programming.
Though Moriarty is not formally a tech prep educator, he is eager to provide representative leadership for Tech Prep educators to ensure all ACTE member's voices impact ACTE strategic planning through policymaking and professional development. In the past year, he has engaged with members by learning more about membership needs and providing opportunities to network across the nation.
Looking towards 2024, the Tech Prep section can expect to more times to network in anticipation to meeting in person at CareerTech VISION 2023!
