Greetings, New & Related Services Division, |
What a whirlwind December was! Although I always have an enormous amount of fun with my husband, kids, and pets during the holiday season, it is nice to start new and fresh in January.
For me, the start of a new year brings a renewed focus on what I should appreciate most. What is it you appreciate and could renew your attention to in your life? Are you focusing on positive change and making an impact within your position at work? It is easy to get tied up in the day-to-day urgency of tasks. Remember to set aside time for what matters to students and the staff you serve.
I hope that you were able to attend VISION in Las Vegas. ACTE made history with the largest VISION conference attendance ever recorded! The NRS Division had a fantastic turnout at our Opening Session. The NRS Award Winners were recognized, and we heard from Cheryl Carrier with Ford NGL on the Outward Mindset. Please read below to view our featured award recipients.
Each section in the NRS Division had several sessions during the conference. The Academic Integration Section policy committee worked diligently to facilitate a pre-conference workshop for its members. For our section spotlight this season, I am excited to feature Dr. Jill Ranucci, Academic Integration Section Lead.
I look forward to seeing you all at National Policy Seminar and at the National Work-Based Learning Conference this Spring.

Sincerely,
Susan Leon

Section Spotlight
Academic Integration, Dr. Jill Ranucci
Happy New Year to everyone in the New and Related Services Division!
I am Jill Ranucci, Ph.D., the lead of the Academic Integration Section of our NRS Division. The NRS Division is fortunate to have such an outstanding leader as Susan Leon. With the help of Susan and Jaime Alston (ACTE Senior Director, Conference, Meetings & Events), our Academic Integration committee held a brilliant workshop at VISION 2022.
The Academic Integration committee surveyed state directors in the spring of 2022 to gather information from the state level for exemplar academic integration in CTE as well as state “pain points” in implementing such practices. As a result of the survey, the committee arranged with ACTE to have a free three-hour workshop for academic integration members to attend on November 30th, 2022 at VISION. Twelve dedicated members attended, and with the help of committee member Sumaya Frick, Ph.D., we confirmed much of what was observed in the original state data and began the journey to remedy some of the dilemmas that currently exist.
Richard Jones, Ph.D. a well-known CTE advocate and committee member, has also worked closely with the committee in developing resources that currently are available as well as organizing for the committee an outline of future resources. The committee meets every 4-6 weeks, and we will continue to strive to keep our membership informed of the advances we are making and available resources on our ACTE academic integration page.
Please be sure to visit our page and link to our threaded discussions on current topics.
