CIAC sees opportunity for chemistry industry growth in Canada’s 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan

CIAC welcomed the Government of Canada’s 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan and its plan to help industries develop and adopt clean technology in their journey to net-zero emissions. Of note, CIAC was pleased to see the plan include a commitment to an investment tax credit for capital invested in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) projects to encourage the development and deployment of CCUS technologies.

New $50 million funding opportunity from Emissions Reduction Alberta
|
Emissions Reduction Alberta recently announced a new $50 million funding opportunity to advance technology innovations that will reduce the impacts of material production, processing, and disposal, and support economic diversification. Successful applicants are eligible for up to $10 million with a minimum request of $500,000. ERA will match private contributions to a single project for up to 50 per cent of the project’s eligible expenses.
“CIAC applauds Emissions Reduction Alberta on this initiative. Alberta is showing leadership with the creation of this $50-million circular economy fund for innovative technology solutions to achieve zero plastic waste and support a low-carbon future,” said Elena Mantagaris, Vice-President of CIAC Plastics Division.
The deadline to apply is May 26, 2022, at 5 p.m. (MST).

CIAC welcomes Ontario’s Low Carbon Hydrogen Strategy
|

April 7, Ontario released its Low Carbon Hydrogen Strategy, outlining actions that will be taken to increase the provinces low-carbon hydrogen production and explaining the role of the Sarnia-Lambton chemical manufacturing cluster.
“Achieving net-zero emissions for all of Canada will require chemistry-based solutions. Ontario’s low carbon hydrogen strategy will help to create the conditions that attract new innovative investments to decarbonize production and create high value jobs throughout Ontario’s chemistry industry. The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada and its members look forward to working with Ontario on this important initiative,” said Bob Masterson, President and CEO of CIAC.

CIAC makes recommendations on state of Canada’s supply chain

On April 4, CIAC representatives shared recommendations with federally elected officials on the state of Canada’s supply chain. Bob Masterson, President and CEO, was joined by Kara Edwards, Director, Transportation as witnesses before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

CIAC and Women Building Futures celebrate the first recipient of the John Vincett Responsible Care® Award

In 2021, CIAC announced the John Vincett Responsible Care® Award through Women Building Futures (WBF), which provides financial relief to Indigenous women who attend WBF programs. In March, WBF announced the first recipient of the award, Alex, who had been struggling to secure employment through the pandemic.
