THIS MONTH's
FEATURED ART

Ceridwen Great Green Hen by Jen Delyth
The Great Green Hen

Ceridwen is the Great Mother Hen who gives birth to Taliesin the Great Poet. She is the Welsh Mother Goddess, associated with fertility and fecundity. She is the eater of corn (Taliesin was disguised as a pile of corn) - food of earth and sun ripened, transforming in her cauldron womb into new life. In many of the world's cultures, the egg represented the original source of creation - the Cosmic Egg - from which the universe was originally born. The Great Green Hen is symbolic of hope and rebirth, her gift of eggs a magical source of life and growth.

Hand-Painted ....
Celtic Tree of Life Stained Glass by Jen Delyth

Celtic Tree of Life
An original design by Jen Delyth 1989

Jen Delyth created her distinctive and widely known symbol - "Celtic Tree of Life" -  in 1989. Representing the interconnectedness of all things - the circle of life - plants, animals, the above and below, the circle that connects us all. There are no actual Celtic Tree images in antiquity, and Jen's design was one of the first Celtic Art depictions to illustrate this philosophy - that although common to many cultures, lies at the heart of the Celtic religion and culture.

Ten Inches in Diameter...

Celtic Doves Stained Glass by Jen Delyth

Celtic Doves
Among many mythologies the dove appears as feminine symbol of soul, wisdom, re-birth and harmony.  In the ancient world the concept of harmony was close to healing.  Images of doves were offered to the Celtic healer-deities of thermal springs, multiple stone figures of doves were offered to the curative spirits presiding over shrines. Like ravens, doves were perceived as oracular birds.

Epona Celtic Horses Stained Glass by Jen Delyth

Epona
The Horse was of tremendous importance to the early nomadic Celts, a major symbol of energy, power and fertility. Epona is the White Mare Horse Goddess, also known as Rhiannon (Wales) and Macha and Etain (Ireland).  The Belgae who worshipped Epona, probably carved the famous  White Horse - 370 ft long -into the chalk at Uffington (in Berkshire).
