Immersive Headset Pilot + Immersive Tours Pilot

What is IMEX Lab?

The Immersive Experiences (IMEX) Lab offers both a space designed specifically for creation and viewing of emergent new forms of content as well as a staff of experts to help guide exploration of the technologies in and out of the classroom.

IMEX Lab is located in 109 Ag Sci & Industries Building at University Park and partners with Commonwealth campus Library and local IT to provide statewide access to resources, part of the Media Commons, which is provided by Teaching and Learning with Technology, a unit of Penn State Information Technology.

Immersive Headset Pilot Banner

The Immersive Headset Pilot offers students the opportunity to explore real and imagined places and interact in shared enviroments across distance through powerful virtual reality (VR) hardware.

This pilot offering leverages the Meta Quest 2 headset kits, allowing users to experience untethered (no PC required) VR experiences like apps and games as well as innovate 360º experiences in the form of immersive video storytelling and place-based tours.

Immersive Tours Pilot Banner

The Immersive Tours Pilot offers students the opportunity to tell stories about real places using 360º imagery and informative, interactive annotations.

This new pilot offering leverages the (University Courseware-approved) ThingLink platform, allowing creators to easily upload their 360º content into its cloud-based editing space. Students are then able to create individual scenes from their spherical recordings, adding details like text descriptions, audio guidance, photo or video embeds and more. Scenes can be linked together to create “walking’ tours of larger or more complex spaces.
