BIA Member Call to Action!
BIA Baldy View Members -
Sacramento is at again. The state legislature is currently considering approving Assembly Bill 2840 (Reyes), a bill so harmful to the homebuilding industry that the California Building Industry Association has identified it as a “Housing Killer.”
If passed and signed into law, AB 2840 would:
- Stop the construction of certain types of housing proposals, including many mixed-use developments and master-planned communities.
- Worsen supply chain backlogs impacting homebuilders along with thousands of other California businesses.
- Impose costly labor mandates, making numerous housing proposals economically infeasible.
- Create massive state overreach and crippling local land use control.
These are just a few of the onerous provisions in AB 2840, which is why BIASC needs YOUR help in speaking out against this harmful proposal. Unfortunately, this misguided legislation barely limped off the Assembly Floor with the minimum votes needed and is now headed to the Senate committee process. We will keep you posted regarding a future BIA call to action where you can help us defeat this legislation.
Meanwhile, BIA Baldy View Chapter continues to collaborate with a broad coalition of counties, local cities, business organizations to SUPPORT the CA Fish and Wildlife Commission's study, which recommends not listing the Western Joshua Tree as an endangered species while opposing all attempts by environmental groups to list it.
The CA Fish and Wildlife Commission will be hosting a public hearing on Wednesday June 15th. Please note, although the hearing will start at 8:30 am the Joshua tree section will likely not begin until 11 am on Wednesday. It’s possible it could be pushed back to start after lunch.
We are urging ALL BIA Members to testify virtually. Please email [email protected] to confirm your participation.
