NEW look, SAME mission.

We are so excited to reveal the brand new t-shirt graphic for the Mental Health Matters Walk/Run for Awareness!

This fresh new graphic represents everything this event is about: movement, community, and a renewed commitment to mental health awareness right here in WNC.

Have you signed up yet? The 4th Annual Mental Health Matters 5K is coming up, and there are a couple of different ways you can be a part of the fun:

-WALK or RUN the 5K course (or take a relaxed lap around the track!)

-VOLUNTEER and be the helping hands that make race day happen

-Be part of our HEALTH AND RESOURCE FAIR and connect with other local community partners

-Become a SPONSOR for the event!

However you show up, you're helping us end the stigma and remind our community that mental health matters. Just a reminder - the first 400 walker/runner sign-ups will receive a free t-shirt with our brand new graphic on it!

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Racial and ethnic minorities face mental health challenges at a disproportionate rate, yet often encounter systemic barriers that make seeking help far harder than it should be. Stigma, lack of representation, disparities in health insurance coverage, and lower-quality care are just a few of the challenges these communities face every day.

This July, ASCC recognizes these communities and the unique mental health struggles they carry. We remain committed to ending the stigma around mental health and expanding access to culturally competent care for all. For more resources and information on this important topic, please consider visiting the link below.

Tune in mid-month for Episode 13 — Therapy 101, Pt. 2: Understanding Therapy Modalities — the second installment in our series breaking down the different types of therapy available. It's an important topic where we're giving you a high-level overview of the major therapy modalities so you can walk into your next search with a clearer sense of what actually fits you.

Whether you're therapy-curious, switching therapists, or just want to understand the lingo, this episode will help you find the right fit. Click the link below to listen!

Meet our New Outreach and Community Engagement Manager!

Welcome our new Outreach and Community Engagement Manager, Katie Walo! Katie started working at our center in May, and we are so thrilled to add her to the ASCC family. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Katie obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Public Health from Montana State University. She moved to Asheville in the fall of 2023 and has loved exploring the area and making connections in the community. Before joining ASCC, Katie worked for local nonprofit Homeward Bound as a Housing Specialist. She's passionate about affordable and accessible social services for those who need it most, whether that's housing, substance use recovery, or mental health care. Katie is excited to share her marketing and engagement skills at ASCC while helping advance our mission to provide mental health care for all!

Welcome our Summer Intern!

Meet Elohi LittleJohn, our First Bank 'Mental Health First' UNCA Summer Intern! Elohi is going into her senior year at UNCA. She will be majoring in psychology and minoring in business, and has plans to pursue sports psychology or counseling in grad school. She is also involved with the athletic marketing team for the Bulldogs! Elohi is from the Asheville area and has deep roots in the community. She is passionate about advocacy for affordable and accessible mental health care. Elohi is excited to combine her psychology and business backgrounds while working for ASCC and to gain more experience in marketing and communications for a nonprofit. In her free time, Elohi loves spending time with her dog, taking a hike on the beautiful trails near town, or snowboarding during the winter. We are so excited she is a part of our team for the summer!

We Love Our Therapists!

Photo from ASCC Therapists Meeting. Not all of our amazing counselors are pictured and some of the team attended virtually.

ASCC is so fortunate to have 22 amazing therapists working with our Center. Since the center's opening in 2000, our therapists have provided low- to no-cost therapy to over 12,000 clients spanning 11 counties in Western North Carolina. Without their passion for providing mental health care for uninsured clients, All Souls would not be able to do the work we do. Thank you so much to our on-staff and contract therapists for the invaluable work that they provide for our community!

Countdown to the 2nd Annual Big Weiner Party!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 25th, and prepare for an unforgettable afternoon of outrageous toppings, cold brews, and laugh-out-loud fun that's all in support of a vital cause. The Big Wiener Party is Asheville’s over-the-top hot dog showdown, hosted at Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ.

Your appetite for fun will help provide critical mental health support to those who feed and serve our community. Proceeds benefit the Bear’s Foundation Linked4Life initiative, which funds 6 free sessions of mental health counseling for Asheville’s food and beverage workers through All Souls Counseling Center. Since the program began on April 1, 2025, we have provided 280 sessions to 61 unduplicated clients from 44 different food and beverage establishments.

We invite you to show up for Bear's Smokehouse & BBQ - as well as our local food & beverage workers - by attending the party! And remember, be super kind to those who serve you in all our community's eateries, coffee shops, breweries, bakeries, and more, who make our lives more enjoyable!
