Issue #33 | November, 3 2023

Weekend Closure

If weather allows, a series of traffic switches are scheduled for mid-November from Antioch Road to 143rd Street. Both directions of traffic will move onto the completed southbound pavement and bridges.

Be prepared and vigilant as traffic configurations will change. Watch for message boards with the dates and locations of these switches. For daily construction updates, sign up for text alerts here.

Construction Updates

Welcome to the work zone!

Example noise wall construction process from a previous KDOT project

Noise wall construction is starting just north of 139th Street with the installation of wall support structures. Noise walls begin with the installation of foundation elements. Posts then will be installed and noise wall panels will then be set between the posts. Eventually, each wall will be painted a uniform color. As a reminder, not all noise walls will be constructed concurrently. For more information about noise wall construction, please visit the Project website.

Bridge construction continues along U.S. 69 in multiple areas. Construction crews are continuing with new bridges at Blue Valley Parkway, Indian Creek, College Blvd., North Branch Indian Creek and I-435. Along 143rd Street, the first phase of bridge construction is complete, and crews are working to remove the final elements of form work that had supported the bridge while it was under construction. The remaining phase of U.S. 69 bridge construction over 143rd Street will be completed in 2024.

Engage with the Project Team

Members of the 69Express Project Team have spoken to neighborhood associations and other organizations about their specific questions and concerns regarding the Project. The project team is interested in keeping Overland Park citizens informed about the project.

If your organization or neighborhood would like a presentation, please reach out through the project email at info@69express.com to submit a meeting request. We look forward to hearing from you!

The 69Express Project Team will also host another public meeting in early 2024 to provide construction updates and outline the 2024 construction schedule. Look out for updates and more information on the Project website.

Behind the Scenes

Aerial view of flyover ramp construction along southbound Blue Valley Parkway

The photo above shows construction of the future flyover ramp from Blue Valley Parkway to southbound U.S. 69. This ramp will replace the current configuration, allowing travelers from Blue Valley Parkway the option to enter US-69 southbound on the right side or allow direct access into the express lane for drivers who wish to use it.
