Construction Update

Construction is progressing well throughout the U.S. 69 corridor despite the recent wet weather. Work along 143rd Street and 139th Street is on schedule for completion in June, with the anticipated reopening of those two streets, including sidewalks and trails, slated for June 16.

At College Blvd., significant U.S. 69 bridge construction progress has been made. Bridge crews recently set new steel girders and are working on completing the driving surfaces for these bridges. It is anticipated that traffic will be shifted onto these completed structures late this summer.

The new 6-foot-deep steel plate girders for the U.S. 69 bridges over College Blvd. have a center span of 240 feet. They will be the deepest and longest on the 69Express project.

Traffic Updates

Blue Valley Parkway interchange construction continues to progress. Expect a series of traffic switches between 151st Street and 119th Street over the next month. The switches will allow for the opening of the new Blue Valley Parkway entrance to southbound U.S. 69. The new entrance ramp will enter U.S. 69 on the right-hand side, addressing one of the most significant safety and traffic congestion issues in the corridor. Please stay alert as you travel through the corridor and be on the lookout for these new traffic configurations.

In addition to these traffic switches, we also anticipate a series of ramp closures in the next month, opening new areas of work for the construction team. Starting Tuesday, May 28, the 151st Street to northbound U.S. 69 entrance ramp will close until July 7 at 10 a.m. The following detour will be marked:

  • Eastbound traffic can take 151st Street to Metcalf Ave., take Metcalf Ave. north to 135th Street, turn left on 135th Street and take westbound 135th Street to the northbound U.S. 69 on ramp.

  • Westbound traffic can follow 151st Street to Antioch Road, take Antioch Road north to 135th Street, turn right on 135th Street and take the eastbound 135th Street loop ramp to northbound U.S. 69.

151st Street to northbound U.S. 69 on-ramp detour routes

In the coming weeks the southbound U.S. 69 exit ramp to College Blvd. will close for 10 days. The following detour will be marked:

  • All traffic will be directed to exit at 119th Street, turn right on 119th Street, take 119th Street to Quivira Road and take Quivira Road north to College Blvd.

Prior to the long-term full closure, there will also be nightly full closures of the southbound U.S. 69 to College Blvd. exit ramp from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. from May 20 to May 23. Please visit the project website for more information. All dates are weather-permitting and subject to change.
