Public Meeting Recap

On Feb. 22, 2024, the 69Express Project team hosted a public open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center in Overland Park. Nearly 90 guests attended to learn more about the 69Express construction schedule, noise walls, how express lane tolling and pricing will work and to see the configuration of the Blue Valley Parkway interchange at U.S. 69. Attendees were able to speak with project team members, ask questions regarding work taking place in their area and review the corridor design on a full-length roll plot map. A brief video showing work completed in 2023 was also shown during the meeting.

If you were unable to attend the in-person meeting or would like to review the materials again, a virtual meeting option is available until March 25. The virtual on-demand meeting includes the same information shared at the in-person meeting. Virtual guests can also leave comments and questions for the Project Team using the online comment form. Construction Updates

Beginning March 4 at 9 a.m., all lanes of 139th Street under U.S. 69 will be fully closed as construction crews begin to construct a new northbound bridge over 139th Street. A detour will be available via 135th Street. This closure will be in effect until mid-June.

A full closure of 143rd Street will also take place in the coming weeks. Detours will be available along either 135th Street or 151st Street. This closure will also be in effect until mid-June.

Additional bridge construction continues around Blue Valley Parkway, College Blvd., Indian Creek, and I-435. To see which closures will affect your daily commute, please sign up for text alerts.

Behind the Scenes

With the arrival of March, the first year of 69Express construction is complete. The rapid transformation of the U.S. 69 corridor from 103rd Street to 151st Street has included six new bridges and more than 1 million square feet of new pavement.

During 2023, the construction team prioritized U.S. 69 southbound lanes, overpasses and bridges. This year, the contractor has shifted to the northbound lanes and is in the beginning stages of noise wall construction.

To see work completed in 2023, please check out this video.
