Construction Update

KDOT and KTA complete toll zone inspections

The 69Express Project requires a range of construction activities, including some that may fly under the radar. To prepare the roadway for express lanes, crews are installing underground tolling technology that will work jointly with overhead equipment to accurately capture the KTAG and license plate photos for drivers choosing to utilize the express lanes.

Recently, KDOT and the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) inspected several of these underground conduits to confirm accurate placement prior to new concrete pavement being poured on top of the conduits. As the project continues, all technology will be inspected and tested to ensure seamless, successful operation of the new express lanes.

Overnight Closure: Blue Valley Parkway

On Sunday night, starting at 5 p.m., the northbound U.S. 69 to Blue Valley Parkway off-ramp and Blue Valley Parkway to southbound U.S. 69 on-ramp will be fully closed for striping and traffic operations. Both ramps will reopen by Monday, August 12 at 6 a.m. Northbound traffic will continue north on U.S. 69 to the College Boulevard exit; southbound traffic will utilize Metcalf Avenue to 135th Street.

119th Street Update

The full closure of 119th Street and the northbound U.S. 69 ramp to 119th Street are scheduled for Saturday, August 24. Eastbound and westbound 119th Street will close from Grant Street to Farley/Three Lakes Parkway for approximately 60 days. This closure is necessary for safe and expedited reconstruction of the interchange. Drivers are encouraged to follow marked detours, which can be seen below.

For all Highland Plaza merchants and shoppers, the shopping plaza will remain open and accessible from the west during the closure period. More information on the 119th Street closures can be found on the project website.
